Angela Scanlon has revealed she struggled with ‘imposter syndrome’ after a BBC producer made sexist comments to her.
The Your Home Made Perfect presenter, 39, who is currently appearing on Strictly Come Dancing, said she was ‘furious’ by the disturbing comments.
Speaking on the Fashion as a Force for Good podcast, the former One Show host said it took place in 2016 during her time hosting Robot Wars alongside Dara O’Briain.
Angela said she was “furious” because the comments focused on what she would wear on the prime time show.
She told how presenting the program had been an important milestone for her in her career, but admitted she felt a sense of ‘imposter syndrome’.

Opinion: Speaking on the Fashion as a Force for Good podcast, the former One Show host said it took place in 2016 during her time hosting the show alongside Dara O’Briain
Speaking about her time there, Angela claimed that a BBC producer had labeled her the ‘glamour figure’, despite her explicit emphasis on her ‘strengths and abilities’.
She said: “I think in his mind I was ‘the glamour’, which was just never a role that I felt like I was… like I understood what that was, but it just wasn’t in my mind. I wasn’t that person.’
She further claimed that a friend had called her to tell her to be careful, adding: ‘A friend of mine called me… he said, ‘Well, I applied for the job and this person had said: “So the show is Dara O’Briain and this girl Angela Scanlon – they’re the tits and the teeth.
The TV presenter said she was ‘absolutely furious’ at the comments.
She continued, “The next meeting I had with this person, there was a conversation less about the content – what in my eyes was my work – and more about what do you think you’ll wear? I thought, ‘That’s not important.’
“And they said, ‘Yeah, you know, I just think we need a little bit of glamour.’
‘I was definitely defiant that this wasn’t my performance, it felt so restrictive and so overbearing that I would arrive with my lip on and my legs out to entertain the boys and that was my value. I thought absolutely not.’
Angela defiantly continued presenting the show in overalls, making sure no skin was showing.

Challenging: Angela then presented the show in different versions of overalls, making sure no skin of hers ever showed
The different versions of the fashion piece ended up being something like a uniform.
When asked for comment, the BBC told MailOnline: “We have no comment on this.”
It comes after ITV bosses discuss the possibility of Angela replacing Holly Willoughby on This Morning following her success on the dancing show.
The Irish presenter was raised with leaders of the network as a potential to join the programme.
An ITV source said: ‘Angela’s name was mentioned and actually she would make a great replacement for Holly. She meets all requirements and has a wealth of experience.’
