Strictly star Jody Cundy’s future on show is ‘revealed’ after 4am hospital dash sparked fears amongst viewers

Earlier this week he was rushed to hospital after waking up at 4am with a swollen infected leg.

And now Jodie Cundy is back and ready to hit the dance floor for Strictly Come Dancing on Saturday night as he was spotted heading to Elstre Studios to get ready for the show.

The Paralympian, 44, who had one leg amputated when he was three after being born with a deformed foot, was recently forced to miss two full days of training due to an infection that prevented him from wearing a prosthesis.

However, the star appeared to be back on his feet as he headed into rehearsals hours before the live show with a smile on his face.

As he made his way to rehearsals, Jodie could be seen carrying a pair of crutches in his hands as he slipped into casual footwear for the day.

A spokesman for Strictly said Sun that they ‘hope Jody will be able to perform tonight’ however, ‘there are contingencies if he is unable’.

The athlete, who is a partner with Jovita Przystal, said that he hopes to return to the podium this weekend.

During Friday’s episode of BBC Two’s Strictly: It Takes Two, presenter Janet Manrara announced that he and his professional dance partner Jovita Przystal, 29, had been dancing again in the hope of being able to perform on Saturday.

Janet said: “Jodie told us last night that he got an infection in his leg and couldn’t wear a brace so he didn’t have many rehearsals, he wasn’t sure if he was going to dance, but everyone danced today!’

Asked if she thought Jodie would be able to return to the ballroom, show host former Great British Bake Off star Bryony May Williams said: “I think it will mean even more because they are overcoming such a huge hurdle.

“I mean, I can’t even imagine having to go through that and the pain he must be going through.”

‘The fact that he’s still going, the fact that he was dancing today, it’s fantastic and I wish them the best of luck.’

While it’s still not guaranteed Jodie will perform this weekend, Strictly bosses are hoping she’ll take to the dance floor.

Athlete Jody appeared on It Takes Two on Thursday alongside his professional dance partner Jovita and said he noticed his limb had become red and swollen after having his prosthetic leg removed.

He told host Janet: “It’s been an up and down week. The first two days absolutely flew by. At the end of the second day, we did the full routine several times, which I hadn’t done for the previous two dances.

“I was really confident that I could perfect everything for Saturday.” I got home Tuesday night and took my leg off and was like “oh that hurts quite a bit”.

“I didn’t really think too much of it, I cleaned him up, gave him a bath and made sure everything was fine.”

‘I got up at 4 in the morning and looked at my leg, it was warm, swollen and I felt like it was infected’.

Jody revealed that he went straight to the hospital and was prescribed antibiotics.

However, when morning came, the athlete could not put his prosthesis back on because his limb was so swollen.

Jody said that meant he missed rehearsals on Wednesday and Thursday.

He said: “It is healing and getting better. The swelling has gone down a little more.’

The duo said they really hope to be able to dance on Saturday night, despite the setback.

A representative for Strictly Come Dancing told MailOnline ‘He danced yesterday, which was on ITV last night, and we’re all hoping that Jodie will be able to perform tonight, and there are contingencies if he’s not able to.’

Jodi will be dancing American Smooth to Married Life by Up for Movie Week.

Last week he got 16 points for his Pasa Doble.

Strictly Come Dancing next airs at 6.20pm on Saturday on BBC One.
