Amy Dowden received support from the doctors and nurses who helped her through her breast cancer treatment on her return to Strictly Come Dancing on Saturday night.
The ballroom specialist made an emotional return to the BBC show after a two-year absence, during which time she underwent chemotherapy after being diagnosed with grade III breast cancer in 2023.
Alongside JLS star JB Gill, Dowden, 34, brought viewers to tears with her return for the twenty-second season of the long-running celebrity talent show.
After the show aired, the Welsh dancer shared a special message on Instagram from the team at Good Hope’s Hematology Oncology Day Unit, where she received treatment and aftercare.

Opening the message with a speech to the camera, a doctor – dressed in hospital scrubs – said: ‘Hi Amy, I wish you all the best from your Birmingham breast team. You really are an ambassador for the cause.
“I’m sure you’ll make it to the finals. Keep dancing.”
The speech was followed by a montage of congratulations from unit personnel, filmed just hours before she returned to the show.
Dowden shared the video with her own followers, admitting she was in tears when she saw it on Good Hope’s Instagram platform.
“This video of the doctors and nurses taking care of me made me cry,” she wrote. “Thank you! It’s because of all of you that I’m back doing what I love! You’re all heroes.”
A portion of the launch episode was devoted exclusively to Dowden’s own performance, in which she was accompanied by a group of professional dancers.
Dowden, who is now cancer-free, looked a picture in a stunning fuchsia ball gown with feather embellishments as she twirled and showed off her incredible moves.
Strictly fans have been eagerly awaiting the star’s return and without hesitation took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their excitement.

The Strictly star was diagnosed with stage III breast cancer in May 2023. In what was to be the toughest year of her life, she underwent a mastectomy, chemotherapy and fertility treatments, and nearly died from sepsis.
Dowden recently spoke about how positive she is about life now that she has survived the disease, admitting that she is no longer ‘angry’ about the disease.
Speaking with Great magazine about how her cancer experience has shaped her, she explained, “Cancer has changed me forever. I will never take anyone or anything for granted again, and I now know my worth.
‘You might have been able to walk all over me in the past, but now I know my strength.’
The dancer discovered a lump in her breast the day before she left for her honeymoon in May last year, and after undergoing treatment she was given the green light this year.
Although the worst is behind her, Dowden admitted there were times when she thought she wouldn’t survive the disease as she was constantly flooded with negative thoughts.
She spoke of the dark times she had endured: ‘I would lie awake for hours thinking, ‘Am I going to make it to Christmas? Am I going to dance again?’
‘I won’t worry anymore when I go to bed.’
Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday 21 September on BBC1.
