Strictly Come Dancing fans SLAM ‘ridiculous’ tradition after host Claudia Winkleman makes a surprise announcement
Strictly Come Dancing fans were left reeling after Claudia Winkleman made a surprise announcement on Sunday night.
The BBC show returned to screens at the weekend for the second week of the three-month competition.
After all the contestants who made it through to the next round sat on the blue couch in the Clauditorium, host Claudia dropped a huge bombshell about what would happen the following week.
She turned to professional dancer Gorka Marquez and his celebrity partner, Dr. Punam Krishan, and revealed, “Gorka, you two are doing the first couple choice of the series.”
Gorka, who has been in a relationship with former Strictly contestant Gemma Atkinson for six years, replied: “What we’re doing is a first time. This style of dance has never been done before’.

The other participants refused to give away any more and shared their joy with a fit of sighs.
However, not everyone was happy with the couple’s choice being allowed so early in the competition, and some viewers took to X to vent their frustration:
‘No. Absolutely no need for a couple choice in week 3 #SCD #Strictly’
“Couples’ choice is just a blank canvas to hand out high scores and save someone. It must be thrown away. #strictly’
‘Couple choice in the 3rd week. Ridiculous. #StrictlyComeDancing’
The couples choice category was first introduced in series 16, where couples were originally given the choice of three different dance styles to perform: contemporary, theatre/jazz and street/commercial.
These three styles were used until series 19 where the couple’s choice then became a freestyle dance and was no longer limited to a specific dance style.
Viewers were also left reeling in the results show after Olympic swimmer Tom Dean became the first celebrity to be eliminated from the dance competition.
Gorka revealed the couple’s choice would return as the Spaniard and his partner would do so throughout week three and revealed their dance choice ‘has never been done before’

“I wish I could have gone further and done more dancing.
‘I had the most fun and I wish we could go on longer and longer. I’m sure we’ll be having a lot of brunch again.’
Tom’s professional dance partner Nadiya added: ‘To get to know him, not only is he a three-time Olympic champion, he’s a true gentleman and he’s taught me how to work really hard and put everything into it.

‘And you know what? Sometimes in this program you don’t have to win to win, and that’s how I feel about it this year.”
It comes after some viewers were left feeling ‘sick’ following a bizarre comment from judge Craig Revel Horwood.
During Saturday night’s performances, just before Love Island’s Tasha Ghouri and her professional partner Aljaž Škorjanec perform their Viennese Waltz on Saturday evening, Craig chatted to host Tess Daly about the pair’s previous dance.
Tess said: ‘There’s really only one way to describe our social media star, isn’t there, Craig?’
Craig replied, “Skibidi rizz, darling. Ski-bi-di rizz!’
According to Urban dictionarythe phrase is “is the second highest level of Rizz,” a Gen-Z diminutive of the word “charisma.”

The remaining 14 couples will take to the dance floor next week for the Movie Week Special.
Other definitions include the “charisma a man exhibits toward a woman” at the beginning of a conversation, while the whole term seems like just a bullshit joke.
But viewers were left unimpressed by the show’s apparent attempt to appeal to younger members of their audience, as they flooded social media with responses.
Tom and Nadiya join Fleur East and Janette Manrara for their first exclusive television interview live on Strictly: It Takes Two on Monday.
