Strictly Come Dancing: Emmerdale star Adam Thomas is eighth celebrity confirmed for BBC show

Adam Thomas is the eighth celebrity contestant confirmed for the brand new series of Strictly Come Dancing.

Adam is best known for playing Adam Barton in ITV soap opera Emmerdale.

After the news was revealed Tuesday morning on The Hits Radio Breakfast Show with Fleur East, James & Matt, Adam gushed, “I’m so excited to be joining the cast of this year’s Strictly Come Dancing. I’ve been such a huge fan of the show for years, I can’t believe I’m actually doing it!’

“I can’t dance to save my life, but I can’t wait to learn and have a good laugh with my pro. Put me on that dance floor… I can’t wait!’

More recently, he is known for reprising his role as Donte Charles in BBC One’s Waterloo Road after being an original cast member in the original series.

He appeared in ITV’s I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here in 2016, and co-hosted its spin-off – I’m a Celebrity: Extra Camp.

In 2020, Adam teamed up with his brothers Ryan and Scott for the six-part ITV travel series Absolutely India: Mancs in Mumbai, where they took their late father to Mumbai to trace their heritage and long-lost relatives.

He also co-hosts the popular podcast series Mancs on the Mic along with his brothers.

Amanda Abington

Profession: Actress

Amanda says: “I’m really glad I was asked to do Strictly. I’m actually very shy and self-conscious, so this is a great opportunity for me to overcome those things.”

Layton Williams

Age: 28

Profession: Actor

layton says: ‘Absolutely buzzing to confirm I will be taking part in THE most iconic dance competition in the UK! It’s time to take it to the ballroom. So excited to learn new skills from the best. Bring on the sequins… ALL the sequins!”

Krishnan Guru-Murphy

Age: 53

Profession: Journalist

krishna says: “I’m surprised, elated, and a little confused to be taking part in ‘You Only Live Once!’ Strictly.” I can’t wait to start learning how to dance, but I’m a little worried about my overall decline.’

Eddie Cady

Angela says: ‘I’m not particularly fit, I have no idea how my pelvic floor will react to this dancing. I’ve never danced before, apart from drunken jiving at a wedding!’

Zara McDermott

Age: 26

Profession: Documentary filmmaker and former Love Island star

Zara says: ‘I’m so excited to join the world of Strictly! I grew up watching it every year with my grandma and she was the biggest Strictly fan. We danced around the house and I have such fond memories of that time in my life.’
