Strictly Come Dancing beats EastEnders in the ratings for most watched programme on Christmas Day as BBC sweeps the board with 9 of the top 10 shows

Strictly Come Dancing's Christmas Special beat EastEnders in the rankings for the most watched program on Christmas Day, but both lost to King Charles' Christmas speech.

It comes as the BBC topped the board with nine of the top 10 shows – with ITV coming in ninth with The 1% Club.

This came as a shock as it was hoped that EastEnders' shock twist would take it to the top spot.

With 7.48 million viewers at its peak, the King's Speech was comfortably in the lead among the most watched programs.

Strictly had 5.29 million viewers, and third place was Doctor Who with 4.73 million.

At number four with 4.43 million was Ghosts, a sitcom that follows a group of ghosts from different historical periods who haunt a mansion and its inhabitants.

Call The Midwife came fifth with 4.39m and Michael McIntyre's Christmas Wheel sixth with 4.17m before we reach EastEnders with 3.58 million.

In eighth place was Toy Story 4 with 3.46 million and in ninth place was fan favorite The 1% Club with 3.36 million.

Rounding out the top ten was Tabby McTat 3.35 million.

The EastEnders Christmas episode was packed with red herrings and revelations that left EastEnders fans hailing it as legendary.

The Six united in the pub as they faced off against Nish Panesar at the Queen Vic.

After he dragged wife Suki outside by her hair, the women tried to pull him off her before Denise smashed a bottle over his head.

As he lay bleeding on the ground, they all watched in shock as Sharon knelt down and felt his pulse, confirming that he was dead.

But Suki later realized that he was still alive. Her relief was short-lived when she reunited with the Six and saw someone else dead.
