Streets in Straphine, Brisbane are locked down as police negotiate with man

Residents have been locked down in a Brisbane suburb as police continue a tense standoff with a man believed to be armed.

Police were called to a house on Peter Street, Strathpine, just after 1am on Tuesday to a disturbance.

Upon arrival, officers immediately began negotiating with the man who was alone in the home.

An emergency was declared just after 4am, with an exclusion zone set up in Gertrude Street, Peter Street, Rowland Street and Cavendish Street.

Residents have been advised to avoid the area and those in the exclusion zone are asked to remain indoors until further notice.

Traffic diversions are in place.

The incident is reportedly related to domestic violence, with an alleged victim, a woman, managing to escape, the Courier Mail reported.
