The driver allegedly responsible for the fatal crash has been identified as 31-year-old John Wadlinger from Croydon.

Wadlinger has an extensive criminal history, including multiple traffic violations, and he is being held on a post-conviction charge.

After the fatal collision, he was seen leaving the vehicle and fleeing the area on foot, authorities said.

The suspect didn’t get far before he was tracked down and taken into custody, Bristol Township police Lt. Sean Cosgrove said.

“He stole a three-axle dump truck that was parked in a nearby industrial area,” Cosgrove said.

“He drove it for a short distance before losing control of it and overturning it. He then fled again on foot before being taken into custody.”

A business owner near the crash site described the crash as the “loudest” they have ever heard and the “worst” they have ever seen.

“It was probably the loudest crash I’ve heard at this intersection in over 25 years. There have been some pretty decent accidents, but unfortunately I think this is probably the worst I’ve personally experienced,” said the owner of Beach’s Hardware. told Action News.

The police admitted that this accident was particularly difficult to investigate.

“This is a difficult issue,” Cosgrove noted. ‘You don’t see things like this very often. A married couple who come to visit this area are tragically murdered. No, this isn’t something I’ve had to deal with much, something this bad.”

Charges against Wadlinger are still pending.
