Stolen MediSecure data reportedly leaked on the dark web and more instructions

MediSecure hackers are said to have leaked data on the dark web

In a recent update, e-prescription platform MediSecure announced that it had received information that the stolen dataset was allegedly found on a dark web forum.

It has urged the public “not to seek out this data”. “Gaining access to stolen sensitive or personal information on the dark web only fuels future cybercriminal activity against Australian businesses.”

The National Cybersecurity Coordinator has also been made aware of this “unwelcome development”. “We are working with MediSecure to verify the information posted online,” it said in a separate statement.

On May 16, the company, which previously provided e-prescription delivery for Australian healthcare providers, launched rural, was located in a “large-scale” ransomware attack. It was later confirmed that hackers stole data related to prescriptions and personal information of healthcare providers from its systems until November 2023.

The current national electronic prescription delivery service, now provided by Fred IT’s eRx since May, has not been affected by the data breach, the Ministry of the Interior assured.

Primary Health Tasmania enables eReferrals for Aboriginal services

Primary Health Tasmania, the primary health care network in Tasmania, is helping to digitize the process of providing specialist referrals for Aboriginal health care services.

In March, HealthLink SmartForms was piloted with Telstra Health’s Communicare patient information platform, used by Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organizations and Aboriginal medical services. This allows doctors to enter patient information into referral forms that can then be sent electronically to specialists.

According to Telstra Health, the Communicare solution is used in seven out of 10 Aboriginal medical services across the country.

From June, other states are expected to follow suit with the SmartForms integration with Communicare, apart from Queensland, which operates its state-wide eReferrals system.

New waiting list feature launched on Healthengine

Healthengine has introduced new waitlist functionality to its consumer care platform.

The feature helps simplify the waiting list process by allowing patients to add themselves to an online waiting list via the same booking form and allowing practices to convert cancellations into appointments.

“Our new waitlist functionality is easy for patients to add themselves to and for GP, dental and allied health practices to quickly manage and close booking gaps,” CEO Dan Stinton further explains.

The feature is included for free in Healthengine’s complete GP product.
