Steven Knight teases upcoming Peaky Blinders movie The Immortal Man ‘won’t be the end’ for the show

Steven Knight has teased that the highly anticipated Peaky Blinders film, The Immortal Man, will not be the end of the iconic drama.

In June it was confirmed that the original writing and directing team of Peaky Blinders would return for a Netflix film adaptation of the hit series alongside Cillian Murphy, 48.

And earlier this month, Cillian and Barry Keoghan, 32, were pictured together on the set of the upcoming film as they wrapped up production.

But now that filming has wrapped, the iconic drama’s creator, 65, has hinted that another series is on the way for fans.

Jane Mulkerrins op Times radio the British screenwriter asked this week if they already have a release date for the film.

Steven then seemingly confirmed that the film will be released in a year. He said, “It’s a little early for that, but you know, you can expect it to take about a year.”

Jane continued by asking Steven if there are any more plans for Peaky Blinders outside of the film.

To which he hinted, “Well, it’s interesting that you ask that question because the movie is coming out, and that won’t be the end.”

Further curious, Jane asked, “Oh. So more TV series?’ and Steven confessed, “It won’t be the end, let me put it that way. I won’t say anything about it.’

It was announced in August that Barry will star in the upcoming film, but details about his character have not yet been revealed.

Fans of the show are eagerly awaiting the feature film after six seasons of the BBC show.

The epic continuation of the multi-award-winning gangster saga, set in the lawless streets of 1900s Birmingham, is written by Steven, who will co-produce with Caryn Mandabach, Cillian and Guy Heeley.

Director Tom says: ‘When I first directed Peaky Blinders over a decade ago, we didn’t know what the series would become, but we knew there was something in the alchemy of the cast and the writing that felt explosive.’

“Peaky has always been a story about family – which is why it is incredibly exciting to be reunited with Steve and Cillian to bring the film on Netflix to audiences around the world.”

Peaky Blinders launched in 2013 and attracted huge audiences both in the UK and abroad, landing roles for silver screen stars such as Tom Hardy and Anya Taylor-Joy.

The show is loosely based on a real-life Birmingham gang of the same name, operating between 1880 and 1920, who took part in similar illegal activities.

Peaky Blinders aired six series in nine years and ended with Tommy, led to believe he had a terminal illness, surviving an assassination attempt orchestrated by his own cousin before killing him and moving for a new life.

The BBC’s hugely popular crime drama, set in Birmingham during the city’s industrial revolution at the turn of the 20th century, will end its run with six series in 2022.
