Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq side suffer a fourth defeat in six games as pressure grows on the Liverpool icon

Steven Gerrard suffered another demoralizing defeat as Al-Ettifaq manager on Saturday evening as his side lost 2-0 at home to Al-Qadsiah in the Saudi Pro League.

The Liverpool legend has been in charge of Al-Ettifaq for 16 months and is said to earn £15.2million a year in Dammam, while living across the border in Bahrain.

Al-Ettifaq finished sixth in the 18-team Saudi Pro League last season, but currently sit 11th after nine rounds in the 2024/25 edition.

Gerrard faced widespread calls for his resignation but vowed to fight on at his pre-match press conference earlier this week.

However, these calls are expected to grow stronger after Saturday’s match, which saw Al-Ettifaq defeated for the fourth time in six games in all competitions.

However, some fans remain behind Gerrard

A giant banner reading: ‘You will never walk alone’ – the famous motto of Gerrard’s boyhood club Liverpool – was on display throughout Saturday’s match at the 7,500-capacity Abdullah Al Dabil Stadium.

More to follow.
