Steve Martin sent fans into a frenzy when he took to Instagram on Saturday to mock rumors of Martin Short and Meryl Streep’s romance.
The Father Of The Bride actor, 79, most notably stars alongside Short, 74, in the hit Hulu series Only Murders In The Building – with Meryl Streep making a cameo appearance in the third and fourth seasons.
He reposted a photo from Glamor on his main page posing with Martin and Meryl Streep, 75, but added a crossed-out red circle over his face.
The photo appears to have been taken last year when the trio attended a play together in February 2023.
Social media users were quick to speculate that Steve was seemingly referring to the relationship rumors between his co-stars that have surfaced.

However, both Martin and Meryl have insisted they are only friends and in August Streep broke her silence on the speculation after the pair held hands on the red carpet.
Fans shared their thoughts in the comments section of Steve’s post, with one typing: “Did he just hit the relationship hard.”
Another excitedly wrote: “Are you confirming this relationship?!” while one shared: ‘I take this as confirmation. I’ve never been so invested in celebrity rumors.”
“Is this the couple reveal we’ve been waiting for?” one Instagram user asked, while another added, “@selenagomez please help him. We don’t understand,” followed by a laughing emoji.

Last January, it was announced that Meryl was joining the cast of Only Murders In The Building – appearing in both the third and fourth seasons of the Hulu show.
Told shortly afterwards People van Streep’s casting in the series: ‘The story with Meryl is that she called me and said, “I want to be there.”
“They had already planned for me to have a theatrical experience and for there to be a love interest.”
Martin added, “So that was a coincidence, but she just wanted to be on the show. She didn’t know anything about it [the love story].’
John Hoffman, the showrunner of Only Murders In The Building, discussed the chemistry between Martin and Meryl last year.
He told it The cover, “It’s quite unexpected to imagine a combination of Meryl Streep and Martin Short and see them find this incredible connection together.”
“And, like Meryl said, not to talk about two, or the age or any of that. It’s just a beautiful romance that you buy, I think, because of who these two characters are.”
And in October 2023, it was revealed that Streep had quietly split from husband Don Gummer six years earlier.

Despite the pair claiming they are “just friends,” romance rumors sparked again as Streep and Short enjoyed dinner earlier this week on Thursday.
The two stars stopped at Santa Monica’s famous hotspot Giorgio Baldi and left the eatery in the same vehicle.
Meryl was stylishly dressed in a vibrant blue printed blouse and loose-fitting trousers for a night out.
Martin wore a dark gray suit that was paired with a white shirt and a pair of dark brown sneakers.
