Stephen Mulhern’s beloved Saturday night ITV show is ‘shelved’ in huge blow to star

Stephen Mulhern has been dealt a huge blow as his much-loved ITV show In For A Penny has reportedly been axed.

The 47-year-old presenter is a familiar face on screen, having appeared on major shows including Dancing On Ice, Deal Or No Deal and Ant And Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.

But a surprise decision means his favourite Saturday night game show has been axed after six seasons, although bosses are not ruling out a possible return.

A source at ITV said The mirror: ‘While Stephen is busy filming other projects over the summer, In For A Penny remains a popular format for ITV.

‘So don’t put your money away just yet, because the team might just show up in your hometown and challenge even more people to take part in their unique and crazy games in the future!’

In For A Penny originally started out as a segment on Ant And Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, before getting its own show in 2019 due to its popularity.

This unique series saw the presenter take to the streets of the UK with a portable game show, with the public entering to win a cash prize.

One of the bizarre games was Pump It Up, where participants had to fill their car up to a certain level with two clicks at a gas station.

Check It Out was a game played at the checkouts of a supermarket. All the participants had to do was say whether a certain item was more expensive or cheaper than the previous one.

In another section, called ‘Mom’s Word’, participants had to call their mother and describe a word to her and see if they could guess it.

But the most important part of the show is the ending, where the lucky contestants have the chance to win £1,000.

The sixth season ended last month and the presenter flew to Walt Disney World in Florida for the finale, as well as travelling to cities including Manchester, Leicester, Bristol, Bournemouth, Glasgow, Wigan, Milton Keynes and Luton.

Fans on social media are unhappy with the reported cancellation of the series and are voicing their opinions on X, formerly Twitter.
