Stephen Corbett: ‘Humiliation fetishist’ lashed by judge over vile child abuse images as his fate is revealed
A pub worker who made a video of himself masturbating to child pornographic material to satisfy a humiliation fetish has been singled out by a judge for his deplorable behaviour.
Stephen Corbett, 37, from Sydney, was arrested on February 1 last year after a tip-off to police that he was in possession of child pornographic material.
He was sentenced on Wednesday to a twelve-month correction order and placed on the list of child abusers.
According to police records previously obtained by Daily Mail Australia, Corbett had a master-and-slave BDSM relationship with a young Filipino man named James.
James, playing the role of master, sent a video of Corbett masturbating to child abuse material to one of the hospitality worker’s friends to satisfy his slave’s humiliation fetish. The friend then alerted the police.
Corbett initially pleaded not guilty in March 2023, but later admitted his guilt.
During his sentencing hearing at Waverley Local Court on Wednesday, Magistrate Michael Barko castigated Corbett for his role in perpetuating the horrific child sex trafficking rampant in poor countries.
The video showed Corbett (pictured) performing a sexual act while watching the exploitation material
‘This has to stop. This behavior must stop. And that will not be the case if people overseas in these countries communicate with people here and send material about child abuse,” Magistrate Barko said.
‘It is the most serious crime.
“I commend the individual for reporting it to the police, who acted quickly. And if they hadn’t, who knows how much further the behavior would have gone.”
Dressed in a gray suit, Corbett sat alone, slumped, on the front bench of the court and listened to the proceedings, while his parents sat a few rows behind him.
With his hands folded neatly in his lap, he stared stoically at the front of the courtroom.
Addressing Magistrate Barko, Corbett’s lawyer argued that the offense was at the lower end of seriousness because it was a “one-off event” and that the idea to make the video came from the “master” of the 37 year old.
Corbett has pleaded guilty to one charge of possessing child abuse material
“Generally speaking, in these cases, the police find a treasure trove in the hundreds or thousands of child pornography [when they raid offenders homes]he told the court.
“That one video was a prop in a dominance fetish. The fact that it was child pornography material was in addition to the other fetish.’
Corbett’s lawyer said sentencing should take into account the fact that it was his first offense and that he has been subject to “heavy bail conditions” since his arrest, including living with his parents, reporting to police twice a week and not using the internet.
The lawyer further argued that Corbett was suffering from undiagnosed bipolar disorder at the time, which features “hypersexuality” as a symptom.
“He has been seeking help for his depression since 2013, but was only diagnosed with bipolar disorder after his arrest,” his lawyer told the court.
‘The doctor stated that his hypermanic episodes were quite severe at the time he committed the offence. The doctor found a link between the condition and his behavior. There is an imbalance in brain chemicals, causing cognitive problems related to reasoning and behavior.
‘One symptom is hypersexuality. He has sought treatment for this condition.
“It is your honor that a sentence must be imposed for the good of this perpetrator and the public.”
Magistrate Barko noted that he had previously rejected a bid from Corbett to have the case heard under the Mental Health Act because he believes that all people who commit child sex crimes should be disorderly and that the sentence should be applied to the ‘objective seriousness’ of the crime. .

“Anyone involved in child pornography must have a mental illness. That’s true [the behaviour] not on the straight and narrow. It is about the sexual abuse of children abroad,” he said.
‘I can understand hypersexuality between adults, but not between adults and children.’
Magistrate Barko accepted that Corbett was entitled to a reduced sentence because of his guilty plea, noting that he was drunk at the time and that a doctor’s report said he was at low risk of reoffending.
However, taking into account the mental health arguments, Magistrate Barko said he was of the view that there was no appropriate punishment other than some form of imprisonment.
He sentenced Corbett to 12 months in intensive community corrections, under a supervision plan imposed by the Community Corrections Office.
Under the sentence, Corbett will be added to the national child protection register as a convicted child abuser.
During the proceedings, members of the public meeting were seen shaking their heads in disgust as Magistrate Barko explained the offence.
Corbett has since appealed his conviction, which will be heard in court on August 15.
