Sports expert Steven A. Smith told comedian Bill Maher on a podcast that he considers him one of the most trusted political commentators on television.
The sensational comment came during Smith’s appearance on the 32nd episode of Maher’s Club Random podcast, released Sunday.
The two TV personalities explored a variety of topics, including their common New York roots and their shared hesitation about the Covid vaccine.
They also spoke of political divisions in the US. Smith, in particular, told Maher that he considered him one of the most reliable figures on television.
During the Maher’s Club Random podcast this weekend, Steven A. Smith revealed that he thought Maher was a reliable source of knowledge about American politics.
Politics came up when Smith spoke of his general lack of confidence in politicians in the ‘capital of the country’.
Smith goes on to express his frustration at the polarization of American politics and the “two-party system.”
“They’ve been trying to convince us, because of this two-party system that we’re dealing with, that you’re either right-wing or left-wing, and you can’t be independent,” Smith said in the podcast.
He argued that because most pundits pick sides, they are hard to trust, but makes an exception for Maher.
“Listen, I know you’re a liberal,” he told him.
“I can’t stress enough how much I applaud the things you say when you call either side.
The fact is, in this day and age, if you watch all these channels, Bill Maher, I can make a legitimate argument that you deserve more trust than almost anyone on television when it comes to politics. ‘
Maher agreed with Smith’s characterization of his politics and the neutrality of his analysis.
“You’re absolutely right,” Maher said.
“I’ll just say what’s real, I mean, that’s my brand. That’s what I’m selling. I know when politicians come on my show.’
Maher agreed with Smith that he was neutral and would ‘say what is real’

Maher told Smith that when the staff suggests a politician come to his show, it causes an “eye roll.”
“Because you’re a sitting politician, you talk points, full of shit, not necessarily full of shit, but you just stick to your story.
“They don’t talk the way we talk,” Maher added of the conversation the two had during the podcast.
