Stephen A. Smith says Joe Biden’s decision to drop out of 2024 presidential race is ‘long overdue’ and backs a new Democratic candidate

ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith says it’s “long overdue” for Joe Biden to drop out of the presidential race and believes people should “support Kamala Harris.”

Never one to shy away from talking politics, Smith offered his take on the day’s biggest news in a New York City park, according to Newsday.

“If you take someone other than her, you’re really going to mess things up and that’s too much to overcome. But by keeping her, the synergy is there,” Smith said.

“With all due respect, I think he did a good job, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with saying, ‘You did a good job. Thank you for your years of service, it’s time for someone else,'” Smith continued.

Biden himself endorsed Vice President Harris for the top spot on the Democratic ticket for this year’s presidential election.

Biden dropped out of the presidential race on Sunday, with Stephen A Smith giving his opinion

Biden, now 81, has been president since he defeated Donald Trump in the 2020 election

Biden shocked many by dropping out of the presidential race on Sunday, a move many had assumed would happen closer to next month’s Democratic National Convention, if it happened at all.

Biden’s performance during the June 27 debate prompted a flood of people demanding that the 81-year-old step down from the White House due to his age.

Democrats now have about a month to formally nominate a new presidential candidate and vice presidential candidate.

Smith previously stated that Biden’s age was “not an issue” and that Harris “doesn’t do much” for Biden’s campaign.

Biden was locked in a rematch with Donald Trump, whom he defeated in the 2020 presidential election to win the White House.

It is not yet clear how Democrats will name a new candidate. Biden has cleared the way for Harris to take his role and for the vice president to nominate someone to replace her.
