Stephen A. Smith forced into embarrassing U-turn by NFL team’s perfect start

After Stephen A. Smith predicted his favorite team would be among the worst in the NFL this season, they are among the five remaining undefeated teams in American football.

Smith revealed his embarrassing change of heart during a “First Take” segment on Wednesday, in which he listed his top five NFL teams so far this season.

It was no surprise that Smith included the teams that have shown no flaws so far in the 2024 season in his top five.

The team Smith had a different opinion about was the Pittsburgh Steelers, who he ranked as number 5 on his list of the best NFL teams.

“What do my Pittsburgh Steelers do? You see what the Pittsburgh Steelers do? You see that defense? You see that brother TJ Watt? He’s so special,” Smith said Wednesday.

A month ago, his opinion of the Steelers sounded very different.

“The Steelers looked terrible offensively. They looked absolutely terrible. I’m very, very disgusted by what I saw,” Smith said in August.

“This is what really resonates with me. I think about the fact that you had those three sacks, (Russell Wilson is) still holding the ball a little too long. Because that’s why Sean Payton couldn’t stand him. That’s why Sean Payton ran him out of Denver.”

“That’s why Denver didn’t hesitate to get him out of the Mile High City, even though they owe him $37.8 million. You have some weapons, but at the end of the day it comes down to your quarterback play and what kind of threat he is.”

“But I look at Russell Wilson and think, ‘Damn, this is why the Denver Broncos didn’t want him.’ I don’t want to hear about the calf injury. You’re still holding the ball too long. I’m not excited.”

Wilson has not yet played in the regular season. Justin Fields is filling the role of starter and excelling with his new team.
