Stephen A. Smith blasts Democrats for cowering to Donald Trump since the election: ‘They’re kissing his ring’
An angry Stephen A. Smith has lashed out at Democrats who he says are cowering before President-elect Donald Trump to avoid being “targeted” after his election victory.
Trump will be inaugurated as US president for a second time on Monday, after securing a dominant victory over Kamala Harris in the polls in November.
But as the 78-year-old prepares for a second term in office, Smith has accused certain figures on the left of “kissing his ring” after previously labeling him “racist” and even drawing comparisons to Hitler.
“What we discovered after the election is how many people on the left were part of it,” the ESPN First Take co-host told Fox News’ Sean Hannity on Thursday.
“You know, when you think about it and hear about what [Joe] Biden’s position is and now he and his family don’t necessarily feel for Nancy Pelosi anymore… They feel betrayed.
“They were wondering what they think of Obama, even though former President Barack Obama posted that really nice tweet about Joe Biden a few days ago… We see Kamala Harris and some of the things they’re saying about her now, and they didn’t say it yet earlier.’

‘And then you see the media. Like you say, the media, and what do people do? They hop over to Mar-a-Lago to kiss his [Trump’s] ring. They try to keep him from focusing on them.
‘Suddenly you no longer hear racism. You don’t hear associations with Nazis and Hitler and all those other things.
‘So wait here for a moment. You were convincing everyone and their grandmother that this guy was just completely unfit, the worst blight on the earth you could find, and now suddenly you find yourself in this position.”
Trump was recently seen having a friendly chat with Obama at former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral, despite the pair repeatedly taunting each other in public over the years.
The two fierce political rivals were captured on camera engaging in what appeared to be a very warm discussion, with Trump later saying he thinks Obama likes him.
Smith was unimpressed with Obama for cozying up to Trump that day, saying on his YouTube show earlier this week that this proves why the public can’t trust politicians.
“Look, was it a good look for Barack Obama? No,” said the sports analyst. ‘Politeness is the order of the day. One is a former president, the other is the president-elect. So, to some extent, there is a relationship that everyone should have. We get that, we understand that.
“Here’s my thing: It didn’t look good, but it didn’t look good because of Trump.

“It didn’t look good because of all the things that were said about Trump during the campaign, while you (Obama) were trying to convince tens of millions of people to vote for Kamala Harris.”
Smith raised his voice and quoted Obama and the Democratic party’s allegations and continued: “‘Fascist,’ ‘threat to democracy,’ you know, people bringing up Nazis and all that stuff when they talked about Trump.” So if you (Obama) hadn’t said all these things, maybe people wouldn’t be so riled up.
“Look, for me, I look at it completely differently. In politics, anything goes, we understand that.
“But ultimately it just shows how selfish we have to be in thinking in terms of ourselves and what’s in the best interest of the country, rather than listening to what the hell these politicians are saying.”
