DETROIT– Stellantis is recalling nearly 1.5 million Ram pickup trucks worldwide to fix a software issue that could disable the electronic stability control system.
The recall affects certain trucks from model years 2019 and 2021 through 2024, primarily in North America.
Stellantis said in a statement Saturday that the trucks may have been equipped with anti-lock braking software that could inadvertently disable stability control, which controls the accelerator and brakes to prevent skidding.
If that happens, the brakes would still work, the company said. Stellantis said it is not aware of any crashes or injuries related to the problem.
Under U.S. safety standards, electronic stability control must operate during virtually all phases of driving, the company said.
Dealers will update the software to fix the problem at no cost to owners, who will be notified by letter from October 3.
