Stellantis boss Carlos Tavares resigns due to disagreement in the board

The boss of the global car giant that owns Vauxhall quit last night, just days after announcing the closure of its Luton factory.

Stellantis, which also owns the Peugeot, Fiat and Jeep brands, said it had accepted Carlos Tavares’ resignation.

The closure of the Luton factory puts around 1,100 jobs at risk.

Stellantis senior independent director Henri de Castries said: “Different views have emerged in recent weeks which have led the Board and CEO to reach today’s decision.”

Europe’s second-largest car manufacturer is struggling with a drop in demand for electric vehicles. The process to find a replacement will be completed in the first half of next year, the board said.
