The Steelers mourn the death of former running back Sidney Thornton, 68, who played all six of his NFL seasons in Pittsburgh and won two Super Bowls.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are mourning the death of their former player Sidney Thornton on Wednesday night.

The organization posted a tribute to the former running back at 6:30 p.m. EST, saying they were “saddened” by Thornton’s death.

Thornton played six NFL seasons after being drafted by Pittsburgh in the second round of the 1977 draft.

He spent his entire career in Pittsburgh and contributed to two Super Bowl titles in 1979 and 1980.

Thornton finished his NFL career with 1,512 rushing yards on 356 carries and 18 rushing touchdowns before playing one season in the USFL in 1984.

He was 68 years old.
