Stawell speedway tragedy: Spectator is struck and killed by a car at motor club north-west of Melbourne

A spectator has tragically died after being struck by a car on a regional highway 230 kilometers west northwest of Melbourne.

Victoria Police are investigating the death after a car plowed into the spectator at Stawell Motor Sports Club about 4.20pm on Saturday.

The vehicle is said to have struck the spectator on the highway at Burrong Basin Rd, Stawell.

The spectator died at the scene and has yet to be formally identified. No further details are currently known about the victim or how it happened.

The police investigation is still ongoing.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw the incident, has dashcam or CCTV footage or information to contact Crime Stoppers.

The town of Northern Grampians is located 237 kilometers west-northwest of Melbourne.

The Stawell Motor Sports Club has been contacted for comment.

The tragedy takes the toll on Victoria’s roads by 2023 to 238 lives lost.
