The India Meteorological Department has forecast the highest rainfall in almost two decades. Precipitation is expected to be around 106 percent of the long-term average (LPA), aided by La Niña conditions expected to play a role in the second half of the monsoon season. La Niña is a weather phenomenon that results in stronger trade winds and usually results in heavier rainfall in India.
