From around 350 startups in 2014, their numbers in India have grown more than 300 times in the last decade after Narendra Modi took over as Prime Minister, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said on Sunday.

He said that today the country has the third largest startup ecosystem in the world and is home to the fastest growing unicorns.

“For the first time in the history of independent India, Modi as Prime Minister has made a painstaking and conscious effort to teach the youth of this country that employment is not just limited to government jobs and has introduced new ways of livelihood promoted which may be more lucrative than a government job,” Singh, the Minister of State for Personnel, told PTI here.

Singh said the number of space startups has risen from single digits to triple digits in about four years since the space sector was opened to the private sector.

Singh said that in 2014, when Prime Minister Modi took over, India was the 10th largest economy in the world.

“In less than ten years we have jumped to fifth place. Hopefully, India will become the fourth largest economy this year and during Prime Minister Modi’s third term, India will be the third largest economy in the world, becoming the number one economy by 2047. ,” he added.
