A new startup has put forward a pretty bold claim: its remote connectivity offerings perform at least 30 times better than VPNs, SD-WAN, and ZTNA solutions.
While it’s not something we can independently verify at this point, if there’s any truth to the claim, it would be the holy grail of remote connectivity.
The company in question is called Cloudbrink and is shared in a press release Ny Breakingit said its hybrid access-as-a-service (HAaaS) solution was tested by networking laboratory Broadband Testing, which concluded its service “improved application performance over unreliable Internet connections by 30x or more, even when fully secured.” ”
Exaggerated claims?
Steve Broadhead, director of Broadband Testing, explained the problem and solution, saying there must always be a trade-off between performance and security. “For example, if you use a VPN, you can expect an immediate loss of effective bandwidth of up to 90%,” he said, adding that most SSE and ZTNA services also negatively impact performance.
“What’s notable in the case of Cloudbrink is that a fully secured ZTNA service still delivers dramatically accelerated performance compared to the same connection without adding anything,” Broadhead said.
Cloudbrink also said that a Fortune 100 entertainment and media company is benchmarking its services against some of the most popular service providers in the VPN, SD-WAN and ZTNA industries, prompting the company to do the same.
“Our service was so much faster than their existing platforms that the company initially suspected something was wrong with the test setup,” said Prakash Mana, CEO of Cloudbrink. “Cloudbrink even performed better than a direct connection with security disabled. We asked Broadband Testing to conduct its own tests under controlled conditions to confirm the customer’s findings.”
But testing in a controlled environment is one thing, and practical use is another. Broadhead said it found “a number of scenarios” where the 30x figure was “vastly exceeded”, especially in more challenging circumstances. “The Cloudbrink solution also increased throughput and reduced transfer time, even in perfect network conditions.”
