Start saving: The Samsung Galaxy Ring now has an expected sale date
Details about the Samsung Galaxy Ring continue to slowly trickle out, and a new report backs up what we’ve previously heard about a full launch date, as well as suggesting when we can actually start buying this wearable.
This report is coming out The Electric (through @Tech_Reve), and says mass production of the smart ring will begin in May. A full reveal is then planned for July (most likely at another Unpacked event), before the device goes on sale sometime in August.
We’ve already seen rumors that July would be the month when the Galaxy Ring would be fully launched. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 were introduced at an Unpacked event in July 2023, and the thought is that the same will happen this year – with a new smart ring and new smartwatches too.
However, as far as we can tell, this is the first time anyone has mentioned the Galaxy Ring going on sale in August. It was teased in January and we got some hands-on experience with a prototype at the MWC 2024 expo in late February.
Sizes and features
We’re relying on the magic of Google Translate here, but The Elec’s sources say that 400,000 units of the Galaxy Ring will be produced to start, and production will adjust depending on market response.
There will apparently be up to nine sizes of the smart ring, which backs up what we’ve already heard, and is said to focus on ‘wellness’ rather than offering any sort of medical device functionality like blood pressure readings – although that could come. later on.
According to a Samsung executive, battery life will last up to nine days, and Samsung has already told us the battery will be available for purchase sometime this year. Pricing will be crucial to the success of wearables, and so far we haven’t heard anything about that.
Samsung’s new device has reignited interest in the product category and there are now other smart rings on the way to take on the likes of Oura. The big unknown is whether Apple will also launch a smart ring, as rumored.
