Stars of major ITV drama reveal upset residents waged war against cast shots in their quiet village by smashing caravan windows, hooting horns and shouting ‘get out’
Marc Warren and Maimie McCoy reveal they faced fierce opposition from appalled residents when they filmed Van Der Valk’s new ITV series.
The pair were filming scenes for season three in a quiet village in the Netherlands when the cast was targeted by vandals and villagers yelling at the cast to “get lost.”
Marc, 56, who plays Commissioner Piet Van der Valk, and Maimie, 44, (Inspector Lucienne Hassell) were relieved to resume filming in Amsterdam after tensions reached boiling point after four days.
“We filmed in this beautiful little village with only one main road – and the villagers hated that we were there,” says Maimie The sun.
“They’d be stuck in traffic trying to get through and beeping their horns, so you’d be trying to do a scene and there would be these consistent horns blaring and screaming.” It would be like, “Get lost! Get away from our house.”

‘One of the caravans we stayed in which belonged to a location man was vandalised, a woman was very annoyed that we were there so they smashed the rear window overnight. Sometimes people get really excited about film crews, but there it was the opposite,” she adds.
Mark says residents just wanted to get to work and were frustrated that production was holding up traffic on the main road.
Series three returns to screens on Sunday. It follows Dutch detective Piet Van der Valk as he tackles criminal cases in Amsterdam using human observation and his natural street smarts.
Hustle star Marc took on the role in 2020 as Piet Van der Valk, formerly taken by the late Barry Foster in the 1970s.
The original series was based on Nicolas Freeling’s novels, but these new stories were created by Casualty writer Chris Murray.
It comes after ITV announced there will be a second series of drama Ridley on Thursday.
Adrian Dunbar, 64, plays former Detective Inspector Alex Ridley, who was brought back from early retirement due to a nervous breakdown following the loss of his wife and daughter.

“We will certainly work just as hard to maintain the standard we’ve set, and I look forward to developing Ridley as a character over the next four episodes.”
Series three of Van der Valk returns on ITV on Sunday at 8pm.
