Star Wars Jedi: Survivor brings back the best thing about Rise of Skywalker

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will bring back some of its predecessor’s favorite characters, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, according to a story-focused trailer released Monday by Respawn Entertainment and Electronic Arts. But the game will do more than give Cal Kestis’ buddies Merrin and Greez Ditzus a little more screen time in the sequel, it will also apparently… bring back Klaud.

Klaud is, of course, the limbless alien mechanic introduced into it Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker, embracing Dominic Monaghan in the party scene following the film’s climax. Klaud fans saw him – or one of his Trodatome brothers – tucked away in one Jedi: survivor ad recently displayed on Snapchat. Is the the Klaud? Yes. Could it be another alien that isn’t Klaud? Also yes. Look, let’s just agree that this guy and all the guys in the Star Wars universe who look like him are called Klaud.

While Klaud’s reveal in the background of an ad was big news for Klaud fans last week, his cameo appearance in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was bullied a month ago. In the following video promoting Survivor pre-orders, we see Cal Kestis beating up a Super Battle Droid while wearing Obi-Wan Kenobi’s gear. There, behind all the lightsaber-on-droid action, is good old Klaud.

What will Klaud be planning Jedi: survivor? That is unclear, because Klaud’s role in it Rise of Skywalker consists mainly of dressing and comic relief. Apparently he is a mechanic, but it is not clear How Klaud fixes things. His sensory antennae could presumably detect that something isn’t working right, but with only a pair of webbed feet for feet, it’s anyone’s guess how he could help Cal Kestis and his friends.

We’ve reached out to Respawn Entertainment for the dirt on Klaud and will update when the developer responds.

Klaud didn’t get much screen time Star Wars: Rise of Skywalkeronly 34 seconds — but lived on as a delightful meme long after we’d forgotten the events of JJ Abrams’ 2019 sequel. Known as “Live snail responsethe meme experts at Know Your Meme helpfully explain it all in the following video.
