  • Continued to cover Thursday night’s NRL match

Channel Nine footy commentator Danika Mason has shown her fans a shocking photo of what appears to be a serious back injury, but she didn’t let the pain stop her from reporting on Thursday night’s match between the Dolphins and Manly.

Mason, 33, shared an Instagram story before boarding her flight to Brisbane for the match, revealing a scan showing what appears to be damage to a disc in her back.

The image came with an accompanying caption: “I was wondering why my back has been a little sore these past few weeks…turns out I’ve been doing a pretty good job on it.”

A second story showed a colleague wheeling her suitcase through Sydney airport because she apparently couldn’t, with the caption: ‘How good is my work family for carrying my bags through the airport’.

This was followed by an image of a hot water bottle on her chair and the words: ‘No training for a while. And yes, I brought a hot water bottle for the plane.’

Just hours later, Mason uploaded a photo of her on commentary alongside football greats Darren Lockyer and Paul ‘Fatty’ Vautin.

The health blow comes after Mason called off her wedding to Todd Liubinskas last year, with the pair set to wed on October 27.

The exact reasons behind the split are not known.

Mason canceled her wedding just weeks before the ceremony was due to take place at Greystone Estate in the NSW Hunter Valley.

She has since moved on with Canterbury Bulldogs star Liam Knight after the pair were spotted on a romantic date at The Butler restaurant in Sydney’s exclusive Potts Point in February.

‘Her attitude was that of a relaxed woman enjoying an affair in preparation with a younger one; his was that of a deer in the headlights,” a witness at the restaurant said at the time.

According to the website better healththe term ‘disc’ is an abbreviation of ‘intervertebral disc’.

Discs are spongy cushions that separate the bones of the spine, also called vertebrae.

They provide shock absorption, keep the spine stable and provide ‘pivot points’ to the vertebrae to allow movement.

Injuries such as bulging, infected hernias can be extremely painful.

Herniated discs – when the tissue tears and can crush the spinal cord – are usually treated without surgery and can take six to eight weeks to heal.

Symptoms of spinal disc problems:

*The symptoms of an irritated disc can vary depending on its location and severity.

*SSymptoms may include:

*Increased back pain with repetitive bending or sitting for long periods of time

*Increased back pain with coughing, sneezing, laughing or aching pain,

* Numbness or tingling that radiates to an arm or leg if a disc has irritated a nearby nerve
