Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said on Wednesday that standing committees and advisory committees of Parliament will be set up soon.

His comments come against the backdrop of some opposition leaders raising questions over the delay in constitution of standing committees, which monitor the functioning of Union ministries.

In a speech at a meeting of his ministry, he said that the standing committees and advisory committees were also formed around September 15 in the past and that there was no delay.

While most standing committees come under the Lok Sabha Secretariat, some come under the Rajya Sabha Department.

Standing committees of departments deal with various Union ministries and scrutinize their budgetary allocations and bills introduced in Parliament. They also recommend the government to introduce bills and make policies on important issues.

The advisory committees are chaired by the ministers responsible for their ministry and deal with issues related to the ministries concerned.
