The trailer begins as Annie (Marsay) and Terry (Brown) arrive in Sydney.
But instead of enjoying the glamor of their new town, the authorities send them into the bush.
The couple, along with other recent arrivals, are housed under primitive conditions in a migrant hostel.
Although Terry is a qualified builder, the only work he can get is digging trenches. He soon finds himself in a fistfight with a local tough guy, played by David Field.
At one point, Terry seems ready to return to England, but Annie begins to fall in love with her new country. “I’ve never felt so alive in years,” she tells him.
Other scenes show Terry befriending Ron (Rob Collins), an Indigenous Australian war veteran, struggling to fit into white society.

The Australian government originally enacted the ‘ten pound pom’ plan to bolster the country’s population, which was only 7.4 million in 1947.
When the APMS ended in 1982, Australia had a population of 15 million. Twenty-five percent of Britons who had joined the scheme returned home.
