- Stan Grant was accused of talking about the lawyer
- Viewers took to Twitter to express their anger at the host
ABC Q+A host Stan Grant has been criticized for repeatedly talking about a respected lawyer appearing on his show.
Geoffrey Robertson, a world-renowned Australian human rights lawyer, appeared on Q+A with several other guests on Monday night to discuss topics ranging from neo-Nazis in Melbourne to Australia’s gambling laws.
However, viewers quickly noticed how Mr. Grant seemed to thwart and interrupt Mr. Robertson several times.
At one point, he even appeared to be pointing his finger at the lawyer while talking over him.
An angry onlooker said, “When I saw that Geoffrey Robertson was on #qanda, I decided to watch. But then he realized he couldn’t finish his answers. Always got cut off. So I turned it off.’
There seemed to be several interruptions throughout the episode.
The most obvious example was when the lawyer – best known to Australians for his Hypotheticals TV shows – answered a question about the new Australian submarine deal.
He acknowledged Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s pride in securing the deal, but also noted that AUKUS was the brainchild of ex-Prime Minister Scott Morrison.
He seemed to come up with a punchline, saying, “It was a proud moment for Albo to stand there with Britain and America and take this stand against authoritarianism.
“But then you read that it was actually Scott Morrison’s brainchild and given what we know about Scott Morrison’s brain…”
The rest of his joke was cut short by Mr. Grant, who interrupted to point out how Anthony Albanese supported the AUKUS plan.
He then raised his finger and talked about the lawyer as they both tried to make points.

On another occasion, Mr Robertson spoke about ex-Prime Minister Paul Keating’s comments on the AUKUS deal.
However, his last comment on the subject was drowned out by Mr. Grant, who seemed to be trying to steer the conversation in a different direction.
Reacting to the interruption, viewers lashed out at Mr. Grant.
One said, “This Q+A advertises that everyone has a voice. Stan Grant just takes over and talks about it.
“He just interrupted the wonderful Geoffrey Robertson in mid-sentence… Seriously, there’s NO point in looking!!!
“Once a decent show, now a Stan Grant s***show.”
Another raged, “Oh FFS, when will Stan Grant realize we’re not watching #QandA to hear him talk about the top of every damn dude, ESPECIALLY Geoffrey Robertson.”
And a third said, ‘Stan Grant is an ignorant and a terrible host! When Geoffrey Robertson speaks, people stop and listen intently. They know that Robertson has sense. Stan has to go! Please ABC.’
Daily Mail Australia has contacted ABC for comment.
