‘Stalker’ who declared Taylor Swift as ‘soulmate’ arrested after showing up at her Nashville home

A ‘stalker’ who messaged Taylor Swift’s father declaring her his ‘soulmate’ and was arrested after showing up at the star’s Nashville home is also an ‘anti-government extremist’ who says he is running for office for the presidency in 2024.

Mitchell Taebel, 36, of Long Beach, Indiana, was arrested after going to Swift’s home on May 31 after already leaving threatening messages to the star’s management, police say.

He is accused of sending photos of guns to members of Swift’s team on March 25 and threatening to “destroy” them, according to the local television station WGN. And five days later, Taebel is said to have left her father a message saying that he is her “soul mate” and “he is the only one who can keep her safe.”

In March, Taebel posted a bizarre TikTok video urging fellow Taylor Swift fans to prepare for the Eras tour by “being one step ahead of Taylor wherever she goes…watch her every move” .

The defendant says on his website that he is running for president and allegedly contacted the governor’s offices in several states to say his campaign will be part of Swift’s Eras Tour on the same day and reached out again with her team.

In 2018, Taebel was arrested after taking part in a high-speed police chase in Arizona. After his arrest, he told police officers: “It is absolutely legal to resist arrest by force, to the extent that an officer’s life is taken if necessary.”

On the day of the artist’s Eras Tour performance in Nashville on May 5, he traveled to town and snuck into her apartment and quickly left before police arrived, according to court documents.

He was arrested on June 2, the first day of Swift’s shows in Chicago. The suspect is charged with stalking by threatening serious injury or death, harassment, invasion of privacy and harassment on May 31.

Taebel is currently in La Porte County Jail on $15,000 bail and entered a not guilty plea in court on Tuesday.

The Southern Poverty Law Center maintains a profile on Taebel referring to him as an “anti-government extremist” who has previously been convicted of assault after punching the doorman at his then-girlfriend’s apartment building who refused to let him in.

In 2013, he was arrested for “attempted lewd and unlawful acts against an aspiring porn star in the valley of Los Angeles.” He later tried to sue the city of Los Angeles for $1 billion for wrongful arrest. Taebel is also a Second Amendment advocate.

An investigation into his alleged stalking began on March 25 after he allegedly threatened members of Swift’s management company.

He allegedly used a fake Instagram account on April 5 to threaten one of Swift’s dancers.

According to court documents, Taebel posted a photo of someone firing a gun at a distance and said, “If there’s the sexual performance of Vigilant s**t today, you can bet we’ll destroy you and all the other dancers and (Swift) too, I think you know what happened to Joe Alwyn.”

Taebel left a voicemail accusing him of saying that he and Swift should meet and that he would “carry a bomb on his chest.”

And he posted threatening videos to Swift on Instagram in April with a caption that she “deserves to be shot,” according to court documents.

On May 5, he reportedly made his way to the top of her Nashville penthouse, which she bought in 2009, by sneaking in through an unsecured door.

And he allegedly told security he was a “handsome, well-dressed, popular TV presenter” before asking if Swift was there.

The police were quickly called, but he left before they arrived.

He secured tickets to attend her show in Nashville the day after on May 6 from a third party despite being on a ‘security threat/concern list’.

And he would have placed himself where management and performers had to get past him to get on stage.

Security allegedly recognized him and questioned him about why he had come to her house and about his “obsession” with her before being escorted out of the venue.

And after returning to his Long Beach home, Taebel posted a racist diatribe on his Instagram page admitting to going to Swift’s apartment, court documents show.

“I went to[Swift’s]apartment complex and anyone in my opinion who thinks it is illegal in any way to go to someone’s apartment and see if they want to meet should be killed. They should die of a heart attack on the spot,” he allegedly said.

He is accused of using the N-word multiple times during the tantrum, ending with “she had no idea a white person would come in there and talk to (Swift) like I did.”

On May 11, a temporary restraining order was issued for Swift’s management company against Taebel in Nashville.

And between May 16 and May 18, documents state that he posted multiple videos on Instagram and in one of them he allegedly said that it is his “mortal wish that everyone who has anything to do with them, who does not meet, should be executed’.

According to court documents, they were used to extend the restraining order.

Taebel got a public defender and his next trial is July 27.
