“We have already sold enough to make the project profitable,” Krippa said, according to ITC’s translation. “The team worked almost 24/7 before the release. They lived this project, especially against the backdrop of war. We wanted to give the country hope and pride, to show everyone that Ukrainians can create projects of such a high level.”
STALKER 2 cost GSC Game World tens of millions of dollars, the vast majority of which was spent on core development and very little on marketing, the report said. The biggest market for the game is the United States, but the game was also so popular in Ukraine that downloads put a strain on the country’s internet.
Due to this success, Krippa added: STALKER 2 will get at least two expansions and multiplayer. No further details were provided. Krippa also believes that GSC Game World can use the STALKER franchise to take Ukraine to the next level, just as CD Projekt Red put Poland on the map with The Witcher.
“I would like us to get the series on Netflix,” Krippa said. “Some negotiations are underway, but the issue has not yet been resolved.”
“It’s not perfect, we have to fix everything, there are some problems,” STALKER 2 creative director Mariia Grygorovych said Eurogamer in a story published on December 4. “But it’s a game! It is a game with soul, with feelings there, with love there. You can’t even solve the problems if you don’t have a game.”
