A mound of toilet paper was allegedly set on fire in a supermarket nearly burning it to the ground as the owner praised staff and customers for “saving the store”.

CCTV captured the large stack of toilet paper rolls that caught fire at a Spudshed store in Perth’s Innaloo on Monday night, with police charging a 13-year-old girl in the incident.

The vision showed shoppers and staff running madly towards the flames with extinguishers in a desperate attempt to put out the flames.

They pulled toilet paper rolls and flammable items from the fire while others sprayed the area with foam as the flames climbed toward the ceiling.

Customers were seen running out of the store to escape the fire and smoke.

The fire was finally put out after a 15-minute struggle.

Franchise owner and founder Tony Galati appreciated the quick thinking of his staff and customers and said he would personally appreciate it.

“All the fire extinguishers in the store were used, about 15 or 16…customers and staff were just grabbing them,” he said. Perth Now.

“They are heroes… I’m grateful to the staff and customers, it could have been so much worse.”

Galati estimated that it would cost $50,000 to repair the damage done to the store.

A St John WA spokeswoman said two ambulances examined some in the shop for smoke inhalation and burns, but no one was taken to hospital.

The store lost a lot of stock and a section had to be emptied.

“Thank God we got it and almost 12 hours later we are still operating, it could have been a disaster,” Galati said. 7News.

Western Australia Police told Daily Mail Australia that a 13-year-old girl has been charged with one count of criminal damage by arson.

She will preside over the Perth Children’s Court on March 23, 2023.
