St Vincent’s Health signs up with MEDITECH for EMR from private hospitals

St Vincent’s Health is to implement a single cloud-hosted EMR system for its private hospitals in Australia.

The company recently announced in a press release that it has awarded a contract to US-based MEDITECH to implement the Expanse EMR at its ten private hospitals in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. It will be deployed via MEDITECH as a Service, Expanse’s subscription model.

MEDITECH said the web-based EMR platform will enable hospital staff to access real-time patient information that can be personalized to their workflows. It also gives them the ability to be fully mobile, retrieve patient records, examine results, submit orders and document care.

“With this robust EMR foundation, we will be able to add even more advanced clinical functionality over time,” said Patricia O’Rourke, CEO of St. Vincent’s Private Hospital Division.

The organizations are currently in the planning and design phase of the project; the go-lives are phased and planned for the end of this year and early 2025.

THE BIG TREND

St Vincent’s Health, one of Australia’s largest not-for-profit healthcare and aged care providers, recently faced a breach of its IT system by unknown hackers. More than a month after the December 19 incident, it announced that approximately 4.3 gigabytes of system, configuration and network data had been stolen, although no sensitive information was included.
