A woman has died after a car went off the road and drove through her home, while the alleged driver has been arrested after she fled with her baby.

Emergency services rushed to a house on Monfarville Street in Sydney’s St Marys, west of Sydney, after receiving reports that a car had crashed around 5:20 a.m. on Saturday.

Police arrived and found a gaping hole in the upholstery, with debris surrounding a car and a badly injured 50-year-old woman.

Police were called to an address in western Sydney around 5:20 a.m. where they found a destroyed family home (pictured) and a seriously injured 50-year-old woman.

New South Wales police and paramedics made desperate efforts to treat her before she died at the scene.

The three other residents of the house were unharmed.

A 29-year-old woman is said to have left the car and fled with her child in hand before being stopped by police near the crime scene.

The alleged driver was then arrested and taken to a nearby hospital for mandatory tests.

Both she and her child would have been unharmed.

“Agents from the Nepean Police Area Command have identified a crime scene, which will be investigated by specialized police from the Crash Investigation Unit,” the NSW Police Department said in a statement.

“An investigation has been launched into the circumstances of the crash.”

Police (pictured at the scene) will continue to investigate the incident after the 50-year-old died and the alleged driver was caught fleeing with her baby

The gruesome wreckage left near the property shows the car pierced all the way through the house.

The impact crumpled the thin side walls of the building and left a trail of wreckage through the house.

Behind the house, the car stopped at a gazebo with household supplies and personal belongings strewn across the lawn – including a mattress and two halves of a leather armchair.

Police will continue to investigate on Saturday.
