St Marys stabbing: woman dies and man arrested after attack in western Sydney

A man has been arrested after a young woman was allegedly stabbed to death in western Sydney.

Emergency services were called to Edmondson Avenue in St Marys around 6.45am on Wednesday after reports of a stabbing.

The woman was found with stab wounds to her chest and tragically died at the scene, despite desperate efforts by paramedics to resuscitate her.

She has not been formally identified but is believed to be in her thirties.

Police have launched an emergency investigation into a fatal stabbing in St Marys

A 35-year-old man was later arrested at Campbelltown police station, 43 km away in southwest Sydney.

The man is currently being questioned by officers. No charges have been filed at this early stage.

The investigations are continuing.
