Missouri inmates held a 70-year-old guard hostage demanding “pizza and chicken pies” as they criticized inmates’ minimal hot food options.

Police say the guard was injured and unarmed. He was taken hostage on the fourth floor of the Justice Center shortly after six o’clock on Tuesday morning and was not released until a few hours later.

The guard was released at 08:30 Fox 2 Now reported, but the standoff does not appear to be over as authorities continue to surround the building.

Sources told KFVS12 that the prisoners demanded ‘pizza and chicken pies’ amid complaints that there is not enough hot food, although this has not been confirmed by officials.

The guard was placed in an ambulance and taken to hospital for treatment. His condition is still unclear.

Several police vehicles are at the scene, along with the St. Louis SWAT team.

This is an evolving story.
