St Louis keeps its perfect MLS start with a 3-1 win over Charlotte FC in second-ever league game

St Louis City SC maintains its perfect start in MLS, posting an emphatic 3-1 victory against last season’s expansion side Charlotte FC in its first home league game.

St Louis City SC have extended their strong start to their new life in MLS, having won their first home league game, defeating last season’s expansion side Charlotte FC 3-1.

Captained by former Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Bürki, America’s newest soccer team, which is run by a nine-member, majority-female ownership group, overcame a 25th-minute Enzo Copetti header against development of the game.

However, just four minutes before halftime, Charlotte center Bill Tuiloma plowed past St. Louis forward Joao Klauss de Mello too early for a cross and resulted in him heading the ball back into his own net, catching his goalkeeper Pablo Sisniega off his line.

One of his team’s two designated players, German midfielder Eduard Lowen, gave St Louis the lead from the penalty spot before the half-time whistle was blown (45+5′) after Poland’s Karol Świderski , from Charlotte, will handle the ball from inside his own box.

Saturday night gradually took a turn for the worse for The Crown as the match wore on, with a mistake at the back by the team’s French centre-back Adilson Malanda giving St Louis a two-goal lead in the 71st minute.

Malanda carelessly made a back pass to Sisniega while Klauss took advantage of the box. The Brazilian intercepted the ball before it reached the Charlotte goalie and fended it off to score St. Louis’s third goal of the night.
