St John of God Midland digitises patient flow with Telstra Health

St John of God Midland recently rolled out Telstra Health’s Kyra Flow digital travel boards and bed management dashboards.

The Kyra Flow e-Journey boards provide real-time updates of the patient journey, from admission to discharge. It integrates crucial patient information from various hospital systems, including patient admission, pathology, radiology, electronic medical records and dietary systems.

Meanwhile, the Kyra Flow Bed Management dashboards, implemented within the group’s operational command centre, enable monitoring of admissions, discharges and patient flows, allowing staff to identify the availability of beds in different departments.

WHY IT MATTERS

The 367-bed public and private hospital provides medical and surgical care in the eastern metropolitan areas of Perth and the Wheatbelt areas. The recent clinical implementations address the challenges of accurately measuring and tracking real-time capacity and demand across all departments and departments, said Paul Dyer, CEO of St John of God Midland.

The dashboards can also potentially deliver “a host of efficiencies for hospital staff, from visibility across the entire patient journey to improving patient care and outcomes,” said Chris Norton, director of Telstra Health Hospital Care.

“Efficient and effective management of patient flow is critical to operational improvement, patient safety and quality and care outcomes,” Dyer emphasizes.

THE BIG TREND

The integration of Kyra Flow is part of St John of God Midland’s ongoing digital transformation journey with Telstra Health, which began in 2014.

It recently added the progress notes module to the Kyra Clinical EMR, allowing staff to view and record clinical notes.

Telstra Health also recently delivered Medtasker to the hospital, allowing the Radiology department’s personal care assistants to move patients in and out of the department more efficiently using one consolidated task management system.

St John of God Midland now plans to further expand the rollout of both Telstra Health’s Kyra Clinical EMR and Kyra Flow to other parts of the hospital.

ON THE RECORD

“At St John of God Midland, we are continually seeking digital change in meaningful ways by investing in digital healthcare for improved hospital efficiency, patient experiences and safety,” Dyer said of their digital transformation journey.
