St Albans hit and run: Driver, 60, charged after 10 days of police chase after a teenager was seriously injured at a crosswalk

A man has been charged after allegedly getting behind the wheel of a car during a hit-and-run that seriously injured a teenager.

13-year-old Joshua Cooper was hit by a car on August 9 while using a pedestrian crossing on Main Rd West in the north-western Melbourne suburb of St Albans.

In a dash cam image of the incident released by Victoria Police, he can be seen running through the junction where he is grabbed by an oncoming vehicle and knocked to the ground.

The 13-year-old suffered serious injuries and was rushed to Sunshine Hospital.

On Friday, a 60-year-old man from St. Albans was arrested and charged with dangerous driving resulting in serious injury, dangerous driving, failure to stop and render assistance, and failure to report the incident to police.

He has been released on bail but will not appear in court until next year, when he is due to appear before the Sunshine Magistrates Court on March 1.

Joshua’s mother Isobella said her son had had surgery since the incident.

“And from that surgery, we can see how he’s doing and how it will affect his life, or if he can recover well,” Isobella told Sunrise.

“We’ll just hope for the best.”
