Squid game season 2 arrived during the 2024 holiday season and unsurprisingly continues to break records on Netflix.

As revealed by the streaming titan during this week’s update for its Top 10 liststhe second season of one of the best Netflix shows dominates its competitors in the non-English category. His biggest rival, who – funny enough – Squid game‘s debut season simply can’t compete in terms of viewership, with season 2 streaming four times as many minutes as its predecessor over the last seven days (December 31 to January 7). If this was a real version of the battle royale style games of the same name, Squid gameThe second season would have already walked away with the prize money.

That said, Season 2 still has a long way to go to become the most-watched non-English Netflix original series of all time. Ironically, it’s currently being held back from the top spot by – yes, you guessed it – Squid game season 1. So, how close is season 2 to possibly dethroning its predecessor? At the time of writing it is Squid game Season 2 was viewed 126.2 million times in its first two weeks on the world’s top streaming service – which is a record for a Netflix TV Original, by the way – with a total of 904.7 million hours watched.

By comparison, the first season was watched by more than 265 million people and has amassed a whopping 2.2 billion viewing hours since its release in mid-2021. With numbers like that, I doubt this season will come close to the unprecedented success of its predecessor.

Still, there has been plenty of promotional material Squid game season 2, not to mention fans’ enthusiasm for the hit show’s return has undoubtedly contributed to its recent success. Recently, Duolingo launched a terrifying campaign to encourage people to learn Korean, capitalizing on the brand’s creepy vibe, which went eerily well with the Squid game pink guards.

If Season 2 fails to beat Season 1, it will be up to the survival drama’s third and final entry to try. Squid game Season 3 will also be released sometime this year, so it won’t be long before we wait for an answer to that brainteaser.
