Squid Game Season 2 Cast Discusses Fan Theories for the Returning Netflix Show… Sort of
Squid game was a monumental success for Netflix, with the K-drama quickly becoming the most popular non-English language TV series on the top streaming service. With Squid game With season two just around the corner, it’s no wonder fans have all sorts of theories about it.
Ny Breaking even had a theory of its own following the first teaser trailer that was released. While it wasn’t addressed in a new Netflix Geeked Week interview on X/Twitter, the cast did have a few things to say (see below) about what we can expect when the new season kicks off on December 26.
Lee Jung-jae (player 456), Lee Byung-hun (the frontman) and Wi Ha-joon (police officer Hwang Jun-ho) sat down to discuss and debunk some of the biggest theories surrounding one of the best Netflix series to date.

Theory one: Hwang Jun-ho will become a villain this season
Wi Ha-joon read the theory and said, “I think he will become a villain this season. He tries to get rid of the games and eventually becomes the host.”
Responding to this, the actor revealed, “Some people around me suggested the same thing…” but of course refused to elaborate, so it’ll be interesting to see if the police officer’s seemingly innocent intentions change course. As we know, he originally entered the games to find his missing brother, disguised as a security guard. But have the games corrupted him?
Theory Two: Some matches from season one will be rebroadcast from a different perspective
While plot details are still under wraps, fans have drawn their own conclusions about what to expect from the film. Squid game season 2. One theory that has been floated is that we will see some iconic games like the Dalgona cookie challenge (pictured above) or the ominous Red Light, Green Light game return. This time around, fans are wondering if we will see them from the perspective of the guards and games master, which gives some background information.
As strong as this theory is, the actors neither confirm nor deny it. Instead, Wi Ha-joon said, “That would be great.” So whether it happens or not, he certainly likes the theory!
Theory Three: Player 456’s daughter will appear in season two as an adult, and he is now the game’s host
The most “outrageous” theory is that of actor Lee Jung-jae. He seemed to laugh at it more than anything, saying, “Whoever wrote this should join our team,” while complimenting them on their “rich imagination.”
So it’s clear that at least the first part of that was rejected, and one of the new additions to the cast not playing his daughter, but he didn’t have much say in his character who would become the host. But surely 456 wouldn’t be corrupted by these traumatic games, right?
Theory four: Player 456’s hair is now pink and the guards are wearing pink too. Coincidence? I don’t think so!
Many fans, myself included, were baffled by the ending of season one, where 456 decided to dye his hair. I get it, he won a ton of money, but hair dye isn’t that extravagant. This has led people to speculate whether it’s a hint at a darker story for him. As in the story above, people are convinced that he’ll eventually take control of the game he claims to want to destroy.
The answer to this was equally vague, with Lee Jung-jae saying, “We’ll have to wait and see!”
Obviously we knew they were going to be secretive about the plot details, but this showcase certainly gave me plenty to think about when Squid game Season 2 drops in December. Until then, check out our roundup of the best Netflix series so you have plenty to watch.
