Squid Game Season 2 becomes Netflix’s most-watched debut ever with 68 million views
Netflix brought back its global monster hit Squid Game for a second season, setting a new global viewership record.
The streaming service announced on Tuesday that the show collected no fewer than 68 million views in its premiere week, according to a press release.
It is the highest number of views ever for a show’s premiere week, with the show ranking #1 in 92 different countries around the world, with 487.6 million hours watched.
Squid Game Season 2 also set a new record, becoming the fastest show to land on the streaming service’s list of most popular non-English-language shows, just days after its debut.
The Most Popular Viewers of All Time list counts the number of viewers during a show’s first 91 days, although it only took a few days to debut at 7th place on the chart, behind Lupine: Part 2 (68.4 million ).
Squid Game Season 1 is the most watched TV show in Netflix history with 265.2 million views and more than 2.2 billion hours watched.

Considering the wildly popular launch of Season 2, it’s entirely possible that Season 2 could surpass Season 1 in the all-time ratings.
The 68 million views in the premiere week easily broke the previous record of 50.1 million views on Wednesday in 2022.
The new Squid Game season also brought the first season back onto the charts for the week of December 23-29.
Season 1 of Squid Game returned in third place on the chart of non-English TV shows with 8.1 million views and 67.1 million hours watched.
That put it behind season 2 and the limited series La Palma (12.2 million views 37.4 million viewing hours).
Squid Game, from creator Hwang Dyong-kyuk, took the world by storm in 2021 after a group of oppressed people were chosen to participate in a bizarre competition.
Although they are told that they have a chance to win untold billions, they are not told that they are playing with their real lives at stake.
The main character was Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), a gambling addict and father who somehow manages to win the grand prize.

There’s also a VR adventure called Squid Game: Virtuals and the video game Squid Game: Unleashed.
Netflix has already renewed Squid Game for a third and final season, set to debut in 2025.
