A squatter driving a luxury SUV has taken over the home of an Army reservist in Houston after she was called up to active duty, with the takeover costing the soldier $50,000.
Mikiya Barber, who bought her three-bedroom, two-bathroom home in Houston in May 2022, claims Natasha Timmons moved into the house as a renter when she was called to active duty in Florida last fall.
Timmons signed a lease and paid the $2,000 rent for the first two months of her lease.
However, Timmons, who neighbors say drives a Mercedes, failed to make further payments when they were due but would not leave the property.
“She lives in the house and makes it known that she doesn’t leave my house,” Barber, who served in the Army Reserve for nine years, told ABC 13.
‘I don’t know why she won’t let go of my house. I even tried to make arrangements with her.’

During a hearing on Monday in Houston, a judge ordered Timmons to make retroactive rent repayments. A further hearing is scheduled for September 18, where Timmons, who also has a theft conviction from 2003, may face a deportation order.
“Things started to go downhill,” Barber told ABC 13 when the rent remained unpaid.
“I tried to make a payment plan for her. Then she started threatening me to file for bankruptcy and make me go through this process.”
Records show Timmons filed for bankruptcy twice after moving into the property and twice before.
Neighbors said she drives luxury cars and has even washed them in the driveway of the property.

“It’s taken a toll because I love my home,” Barber said after Monday’s hearing
Timmons could be given an eviction notice to leave the property at a further hearing next week (pictured).
“But I’m excited about (Monday’s hearing), and she will be out soon,” she added.
“It’s taken a toll because I love my home,” she told the outlet, adding, “I’m not going to let this deter me.”
Timmons declined to speak to ABC 13 when asked for comment.
Barber, who returned home for the hearing, will return to active duty in Florida in the coming days.
