Spurs fans have praised Son Heung-min after he continued his impressive return to form by scoring a sparkling free kick, giving South Korea a late draw with fellow World Cup qualifier Costa Rica.
Wolves striker Hwang Hee-chan put the 2002 World Cup semi-finalists ahead at the Deokyang Eoulim Nuri Stadium before Costa Rica struck back twice, and it looked like he would hold onto the win as the match reached its final stages.
However, after South Korea were awarded a free kick, Son evened the game by hitting his set-piece into the top corner to avoid a defeat in the team’s penultimate friendly before the tournament in Qatar.

The 30-year-old’s free kick marked his third goal in his last four international matches
In the wake of Son’s sensational set piece, Spurs fans took to Twitter to wonder why the attacker hasn’t been entrusted with taking club-level free kicks:
One user wondered why Harry Kane is still Tottenham’s free kick taker: ‘If Kane ever takes another free kick for Spurs, I want his contract terminated’
Another added: ‘How many free kicks does he have to score for his country before the Spurs allow him to do it for them? I love Kane, but he has to step aside here.’
Spurs fans took to social media to wonder why Son isn’t the club’s free kick taker
Another user wrote: ‘Son Heung-min just scored another world class free kick. That’s 3 direct free kick goals from him in recent months for Korea. Tottenham need a direct free kick taker who can score, don’t they?’
@sonslashthfc added: ‘Son Heung Min has scored a free kick in his last 3 games for South Korea and they are all in a different style. Oh my word, what a player.’
The goal marks the continuation of the turn of fortunes for the Tottenham star.
The strike marks a continuation of Son’s return in the form of goals after a hat-rick for Spurs
After a career best comeback of 23 league goals last season, Son has been criticized after a difficult start to the current season in which he failed to score in his first six Premier League appearances.
Son’s poor form led Antonio Conte to name the former Bayer Leverkusen forward on the bench for Spurs’ game with Leicester.
As a second-half substitute, the 30-year-old would put all concerns about his form to rest with a fantastic 14-minute hat-trick to secure victory at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
