Sprint to the sunbeds! British tourists race to grab the best poolside loungers as others watch in horror at the latest example of Britons’ bad behaviour abroad

The battle for the best sunbeds continues to heat up this summer, with new footage showing Brits misbehaving and jockeying for the best poolside loungers.

Armed with a towel in hand, these British tourists can be seen queuing at the entrance to the pool, ready to rush out as soon as the staff open the doors in the morning.

The video – taken on the four-star Villa Romana Hotel in Salou, Spain – shows holidaymakers passing each other as one person laughs and says, ‘Oh, my days.’

But it seems that this did not deter the tourists, who did their best to imitate a 100-meter sprint to reach the pool.

This comes after a five-star hotel declared war earlier this week on holidaymakers seeking refuge by the pool and then disappearing.

The footage starts off showing a group of tourists waiting to rush to the pool early in the morning

The Laur Hotels hotel on Turkey’s Aegean coast has ordered staff to confiscate tourists’ belongings if they attempt to pack up their sun loungers early in the morning – or even the night before.

Two videos on social media show a stern-faced hotel owner collecting towels on two separate occasions.

The first video – posted by a British tourist – is accompanied by music from Madonna’s Holiday and the second clip features the lyrics ‘guess who’s back? Back again’ from Eminem’s Without Me.

In both videos, the hotel worker grabs at least half a dozen towels as he patrols the resort’s pool to make room for sunbathers looking to enjoy the weather.

As the battle for the best sun loungers in Europe continues, it seems holidaymakers are swapping their stressful morning commute for a morning assault on one of the best sun loungers.

While some sun worshippers make it their mission to secure a few beds for their families, others enjoy filming the early morning sun invasions and sharing the footage on social media.

A video posted last week from the Hotel Village in Benalmadena, Spain, with the caption “ready, set, go…” shows the moment guests rush to their beds.

TikTok user The Railway Queen shared a video showing a manager at her hotel in Turkey piling towels on his shoulder in an attempt to free up space by the pool

The towel on the lounger is considered an almost universal sign of reservation

The employee was seen returning the towels to his colleagues, but it is not clear what they did with the collected towels.

It appears the person has reserved four beds in a prime location, right next to the pool

The photo shows a man wearing a bucket hat claiming four beds by quickly throwing his towels over the row.

The footage was posted to TikTok and someone said, “Do you want to know what happens next? Do they all sit down and relax?”

A second TikTok video shows similar scenes at a hotel in Tenerife. As soon as the gate to the pool opens, guests stream down to the waterfront and quickly take up all the available beds.

The images are accompanied by the soundtrack of Survivor’s Eye of the Tiger, the theme song from the Rocky boxing films.
