Spotify’s nasty new update for Windows 11 is pushing aside one of the app’s most important features

Spotify recently released the new “Jam” feature for its Windows 11 and 10 app, which allows users to listen to the same playlist or album on different devices at the same time. This way, you and a friend or colleague can enjoy the same music while you work, study or just jam (hence the name). However, with this new feature, the queue list has been booted to a small space on the right side of the app’s UI.

Please, please change it back. This is the opposite of an improvement.

This change has proven to be quite unfavorable among Spotify users, who have taken advantage of it Reddit to express their complaints. The official blog post announcing the arrival of Jam calls this change the “new Queue experience,” explaining that you can now browse the app’s content and keep an eye on what’s currently playing in the right sidebar.

The official post includes several disgruntled comments from users dismayed by the change, with one user saying: “Why on earth were Queue and Recently Played moved and now crammed into the small right column? This is just horrible and painful to watch. From a usability point of view, it makes no sense.

Thanks, I hate it

Maybe you’re thinking something along the lines of What a strange little change for people to get excited about! Pre-update, you could have your library on the left, your queue in the middle and your Now Playing view on the right. In other words, you can fire up the app and have everything you need, all in one place. Thanks to the new layout, you can now only open one or two of these views at a time.

If you’re someone who’s a fan of the Jam feature and plan to use it often with your friends, you’re probably not as upset as other users. But as a person it probably will be never When I use the Jam feature I feel deprived of a pretty decent app layout without getting anything in return. Now I can’t see how long the current song is or what album name is in the queue.

It seems that Spotify users live in fear of every new update that is implemented. A common idea shared on Spotify Reddit and in the comments of the blog post is “another Spotify update, another change no one asked for.” I use Spotify every day and I can’t remember a single update implemented to the app on mobile and desktop that didn’t make me angry. Hopefully we can convince Spotify to change everything back to how it was – otherwise we’ll just wait until another update comes along that puts everything back in place.
