Spotify is OFF! Global outage affects MILLIONS of users unable to stream their favorite music

  • Spotify has been hit by a global outage affecting millions of users
  • Users can’t stream music, and many get frustrated on their commute

A global outage has hit music streaming app Spotify, preventing millions of users from listening to their favorite songs.

DownDetector, a website that monitors online outages, reported problems around 7:57 a.m. ET.

Both the app and the website are experiencing issues, with users citing issues with podcasts and artist pages reporting “no internet connection.”

The US is one of the countries affected by the outage and many Americans are on their way to work, meaning no music on the commute.

Some people shared a black screen that appeared when they opened the app.

The cause of the outage and how long it will last is unknown.

Spotify has acknowledged the issue on its Twitter status account.

“Something is wrong and we are investigating. Thanks for your reports,” it tweeted.

Spotify has 498 million monthly active listeners as of this year, but how many are experiencing issues isn’t clear – it could be anyone.

DownDetector’s disturbance map shows that major US cities such as Boston, New York and Atlanta cannot use the service.

While problems are also plaguing users in China, the UK, parts of South America and Europe.

Reports mainly focus on problems with the app, accounting for 64 percent of the reports.

Users also experience problems with the website (21 percent) and audio streaming (16 percent).
